ARTIST STATEMENT
Home Sweet Home is a womenswear collection that reflects the designer’s personal journey from experiencing racial discrimination to building a new appreciation for her Taiwanese background. As a child, the designer struggled with accepting her Taiwanese background and was ashamed of the way she looked and the food she brought to school. However, through years of growth, maturity, and connecting with her roots, the designer was able to embrace and come to love her Taiwanese background.
This collection will take unique design elements from Taiwanese culture including zongzi (sticky rice), jiaozi (dumpling), and cranes. A portion of this collection will be made with upcycled fabrics and notions, while exploring unique design technology and techniques including the Stoll machine knitting, corsetry, and fabric manipulation.
