ARTIST STATEMENT

VIABLE STUDIOS is a creative exploration for finding a middle ground between sustainability and Fashion Futures. In my capstone, I highlighted some of the fashion industry’s flaws, specifically greenwashing and overconsumption. I created two artworks that combine sustainable practices with augmented reality (AR). The first artwork, “VIABLE Pillows,” features letters filled with various forms of waste that would otherwise end up in landfills, such as packaging/boxes, plastic bags, packing peanuts, wrapping paper, worn-out clothes, and textile scraps. The second artwork, “Overconsumption Globe,” showcases the negative impact of overconsumption and the fast fashion industry on our planet. Both “VIABLE Pillows” and “Overconsumption Globe” utilize excess waste and natural dyes instead of toxic chemicals to achieve desired colours.
