ARTIST STATEMENT
My name is Haolin Tong. I do not see myself as an artist or a designer, but just as a person who creates visual concepts. In my capstone project, I’ll be creating a runway art-to-wear collection consisting of 5 looks. This collection takes inspiration from my own experience when I saw people behave differently on some occasions. Human beings are complex – sometimes we act better and hide those negative personalities in public, and sometimes we lack manners and behave curtly. In this collection, I’ll use messy knitwear to represent people’s negative personalities and neat woven pieces as positive personalities. Each look will be a juxtaposition of knitwear (messiness) and loom-woven garments (tidiness) as a visualization of people’s dual personalities.
