ARTIST STATEMENT
Motherboard Dearest concerns the interworking of the human experience surrounding the use of the internet as a method of escapism, and how it intertwines with the Simulation Hypothesis. Similar to a motherboard as the backbone of a computer, the internet is today’s backbone of modern communication. Humans have notoriously created narratives to fantasize or escape from their current realities. Therefore internet escapism evokes negative and positive emotions, increases self-esteem, and stimulates the senses. In a virtual world, we can control our lives, make our own decisions regardless of consequences and appear/identify how we want to. Using a 3D realm translated into an immersive space, Motherboard Dearest explores the psychological phenomenon of escapism and how this coping method blurs the lines between virtual space and actual reality.
