ARTIST STATEMENT
My initial inspiration for this collection began with feelings of disconnect from my Italian heritage. Taking inspiration from these feelings to influence the look and overall theme of my collection was a way for me to explore and resolve the disconnect. Heritage is like a treasure because it allows for a deeper connection with my family, something to be passed down; memories, feelings, images, objects. I wanted to pay homage to my family and heritage, as well as reconnect with it in a new way.
Personal photos and memories drove the story and the overall feeling of the collection and silhouettes were inspired by my interpretation of Italian fashion and culture combined with artistic influences from my illustration background.
‘An Ode to Mom and Dad’ is a love letter to my family and a way to address this disconnected feeling by re-interpreting my views on what heritage and Italian culture mean to me.
