ARTIST STATEMENT
Metamorphosic.
(adj.) Changing the form; transforming.
Inspired by personal lived experience, “Metamorphosic.” presents an auto-ethnographic investigation with a focus on themes of nudity, eroticism, sexuality versus sensuality, private versus public, intimacy, vulnerability, trauma, and healing. Central to this exhibition is the idea of change. Initially, the work was simply intended to be a body of work about Aquino’s body, an exhibition on an exhibition that would be an attempt to develop a deeper understanding of the changing thoughts and feelings that the artist has held in varying spatial and temporal contexts. However, through intense artistic processes of creation and psychological processes of introspection, the meaning of the work has also undergone a change; it has transcended the body. Rooted in her ever-changing self, the resulting collection of work explores and reflects the artist’s mind, heart, and soul through various forms of artistic expression, including modelling, creative writing, sound, painting, cyanotype, and sculpture.
