ARTIST STATEMENT

ZARDAI is inspired by postmodernist architecture and culture, which developed in the late twentieth century as a reaction to modernism. These styles mix historical forms, decorative characteristics, subjectivity, and eclecticism to create aesthetically spectacular and emotive designs that frequently defy standard genre rules and functionalist principles.

Zardai specializes in eco-friendly evening dresses, made using repurposed traditional Afghan scarves with crochet patterns crafted from silk threads. Our company uses zero waste for all the supplies, starting with our fabrics and crochet, collected from my mom and the Afghan community, and natural dyes made from red cabbage, vinegar, baking soda, lemons, coffee, and black tea to create unique colours. Zardai experiments with traditional clothing and modern techniques to create distinctive shapes and silhouettes.

Zardai creates eco-friendly evening gowns inspired by traditional Afghan crochet and postmodernist architecture. Their unique post-modernist aesthetic combines old and new techniques. The brand prioritizes eco-sustainability and reduces its carbon footprint and waste in material sourcing, design, and packaging. Zardai’s style blends cultural clothing with experimental shapes and textures, resulting in modernist garments with a distinct look.
