ARTIST STATEMENT
Thrashion is a mini-documentary that explores subcultures, specifically skate culture, in relation to personal style, authenticity and sustainability. This documentary focuses on the value that curation of one’s style holds and how this can lead to a more sustainable way of thinking about clothing consumption. Themes of community, identity and minimal consumption are explored through short interviews with various people within this community. This project is a very personal piece that has developed through my strong passion for slow fashion and further understanding of the connection between the body and dress. Clothing is more than a means to protect one’s body but another form of self-expression. This project is a reminder to embrace one’s personal style and how important it is to be a conscious consumer.
