ARTIST STATEMENT
“The Forgotten Colours of the Rainbow” analyzes the historical relationship the Black Queer community has had with music, and how they have impacted these industries – often with no credit/ or forgotten. Throughout my research, I will be looking to the past to learn how some of the trends that we see today originated from the Black Queer community in cities such as Chicago, Detroit, New York, and New Jersey. I will particularly be focusing on the now widely popular genre of House Music, and the impacts it had on the music world, this will also lean into discussing club/rave culture and how House Music heavily impacted/created it.
