ARTIST STATEMENT

While researching structures in natural spaces, I identified consistent design elements that provide both protection and exposure to an environment. There is a willing ambition to be exposed to certain elements such as sun, wind, and rain. Concurrently there is also a need to be sheltered and protected. Together these motivations construct an in-between space where protection and exposure are equally present. This constructed space is representative of the dynamic relationship between humans and their environments. As we walk through our busy lives, we often neglect the opportunity to pause, reflect, and feel a physical space. Volunteering ourselves into a place that stands still while the environment moves around it allows us to establish a sensory connection with the earth and identify the subtly pronounced beauty around us during that moment in time.
