ARTIST STATEMENT
Asteria is an elevated streetwear collection drawing inspiration from the phenomenon of Phosphenes, alternatively known as “seeing stars”. Sequentially, forming a representation of the duality of the light within the dark, an exploration of the visual interpretations of the eye. The name Asteria was inspired by the Greek titaness of falling stars and night divinations, exploring light and dark. In conjunction, phosphenes represent visual impressions through the occurrence of seeing light, patterns and bright colours when shutting firmly or rubbing your eyes.
Asteria, a womenswear collection, houses garments that evoke a dark elegance. Consists of jumpsuits, two-piece sets and separates. Carrying a coalescence of streetwear with sublime silhouettes, reflecting both structure and fluidity. Recurring elements of corsetry provide structure in a continuum against voluminous flowing features. Outlining the juxtaposition within the garments in order to define the hourglass figure of the female form.
