For my senior project of the final year, I chose to draw inspiration from what is closest to me. I would like to take my hometown’s features, Vietnam, as my main concept for this final collection. Through this, I want to introduce to everyone the beauty and abundance of the country, the treasures that are hidden behind the fog on top of high mountains in the North West area of Vietnam. Hây Hây is an exotic art-based collection, focusing on delivering traditional Asian-Vietnamese cultural values. As mentioned about Vietnam, elements that pop up in most people’s minds usually belonged to the Kinh people, as they make up the majority of the population in Vietnam. It is hard to find the image of the other 53 ethnic minority groups unless people travel to specific locations. With the desire of bringing their beauty to light and preserving their diminishing traditional materials and techniques, I come up with this collection. The main idea of this collection would be the harmonious association of all ethnic groups in features and materials. Every garment is believed to be its own highlight for the collection, similar to the idea of equity between different ethnic groups. Attires are designed based on the unpredictable shapes of the terraces and their multi-layer trait. In sum, Hây Hây is the connection of traditional and ethnic minorities’ values with modern features.
